Portlaoise, celebrating 200 years of Christian worship

Rock of Dunamaise Co. LaoisThe Holy Trinity Church is located outside Portlaoise on the Carlow Road just outside the village of Stradbally. It is adjacent to the The Rock of Dunamaise which is regularly visited by tourists.

The Church was built in 1845 when the Church at Dysart Enos was destroyed by fire. It was not consecrated until 4 th October 1849 due to the famine. In 1909 the Church was struck by lightning and severely damaged. A centenary service was held at Holy Trinity Church on 2 nd October 1949.

On the 4 th of April, 1998 President Mary McAleese visited the Church and gave a brief address.

In 2000, the year of the millennium, the occasion was celebrated by a candlelit service and a tree planting ceremony in the graveyard adjacent to the Church. A plaque was erected by the Community Alert Committee to mark this occasion which is situated in the front wall whichPortlaoise, the Rock, Ballyfin surrounds the Church.

Service is at 9.30 each Sunday and music is provided by a Mini Disc Music System. The Church has seating for approximately 120 people.
